How to bring patterns into your home
Patterns are a great way to bring about contrast and add to the depth of your interior design. Patterns add an interesting dimension to any design. But too many patterns can make your home look cramped and make the design look inconsistent. Here are some of the basics to consider while using a pattern in your home design:
1- Choose multiple patterns:
Pair up to 3 different types of patterns together to create variety. The differences in the patterns also help bring in more contrast and make each of them more noticeable. When similar patterns are used together, they tend to wash each other out. If you are using just one pattern, invert the color to create a highly dramatic look.
2- Mix patterns and solids:
Mixing patterns and solids are a great idea, be it in interiors or fashion. This creates a contrast without having to bring in multiple patterns. Choosing a color that appears in the pattern makes the design of the room look more connected.
3- Play with scale and colors:
Use scale and colors to get the best out of your patterns. As patterns are used to bring in contrast, using patterns in multiple scales are important. An example would be to choose to have larger patterns on walls and smaller patterns on your cushions. Playing with the patterns sizes also reduce the chances of the room looking too cramped.
Another key factor for patterns is color. Decide on a color theme of 2 to 3 colors and ensure your patterns also fall into this. This makes the look more pleasing to the eye, and the design more in line with the rest of your home.
